Embedded librarianship is a way to provide research help and assistance to distance education students, at their point of need.
Librarians help students by answering questions and assisting with use of library resources and services.
By embedding a librarian into a course in Blackboard, students are able to find research help when and where they need it.
Embedding a librarian in your course is a great way to provide more consistent and personalized assistance for your students.
Including a librarian in Blackboard can also extend students' access to research assistance after the initial self-paced online library orientation session.
The librarian embedded in your course will:
1. Create a Library Resources folder which includes handouts, infographics, and other informational resources to help the students be successful in the course.
2. Create and maintain a Library Services discussion board that allows students an opportunity to post research and writing questions.
The Librarian will post an initial announcement introducing themselves and explaining their role, unless the instructor prefers to do this themselves.
In addition, the librarian could offer other assistance or resources if requested by the instructor of the course (embedding LibGuides, virtual office hours, etc.).
