1,000 Cranes Project

A senbazuru (千羽鶴) is one thousand origami paper cranes. The crane in Japan is said to live for a thousand years. When 1,000 cranes are made, it represents one for each year of the crane's life. Japanese legend promises that anyone who creates a thousand paper cranes will be granted a wish by a crane. Some legends say the wish means eternal good luck, while others say a long life or a recovery from an illness.
