Discussion Boards

Discussion boards are a type of assignment you might encounter in your courses.

You can access the discussion board by clicking on the discussion board assignment in your Module or by clicking on Discussions in the course menu at the top of the page.

Once you are taken to the discussion board page, the discussion board topic and directions are posted at the top of the page, under the discussion topic. You can also see details and information such as the due date and the maximum amount of points possible in the menu on the right.

In some courses, you might not be able to see activity on the discussion board until you post a response.

Be sure to review the instructions for discussion boards in each of your courses as different courses have different requirements.

Writing Assignments and Drop Boxes

Writing assignments (essay, paper, annotated bibliography, etc.) are another type of assignment you might encounter in your courses. For these types of assignments, you will need to use a drop box. You can access the assignment drop box by click on the name of the assignment within your module.

Once you click on the writing assignment, a window will pop-out from the right-side of the screen. Here you can find important information including:

  • Due Date
  • Number of Attempts
  • SafeAssign Requirements
  • Short Description of Assignment

To view more detailed instructions and upload your assignment to the drop box, click on View Instructions.

Once on the submission page, you can find more detailed instructions for the assignment. Be sure to review these instructions as different courses have different requirements for assignments.

When you are ready to upload your written assignment to the drop box, you can either drag and drop the file into the submission box or click into the box to upload a file using the paperclip icon.

Once the file has been uploaded, you have the opportunity to change the name of the file. Once you are happy with the file name, click save.

If the upload is successful, you will be able to review your assignment before submitting it. This is a great time to make sure you have submitted the correct file for your assignment. Once you are ready to submit the assignment, click Submit.
