COMP 1000 introduces the fundamental concepts, terminology, and operations necessary to use computers. Emphasis is placed on basic functions and familiarity with computer use. Topics include an introduction to computer terminology, the Windows environment, Internet an d email, word processing software, spreadsheet software, database software, and presentation software.

Go to LearningExpress Library in GALILEO and create an account. (If you are off campus, you may need the GALILEO password. Ask for it in person at your CPTC library, or via email using your CPTC account.) Once you create your account in LearningExpress, you will use your login each time you revisit the Computer Skills Center. LearningExpress will save or continue any of the tutorials you have begun.
Smarthinking is a tutoring service available 24/7 for CPTC students. The live on-demand service is free, and tutoring services help with computer software and technology problems.

DigitalLearn.org is a grant-funded initiative of the Public Library Association. It has tutorials designed to help users improve their computer literacy. Subjects include Navigating a Website, Microsoft Word software, Introduction to Email, Introduction to Facebook, online scams and help with resumes, online job searches and much more.
GCFLearnFree.org has 125 free tutorials that teach essentials computer skills. Courses include Microsoft Office software, email, Adobe Photoshop, Prezi and much more. The site also has reading and math tutorials.
